Redlands Community Hospital Invites Veterans To Volunteer with Hospice Care Program

Redlands Community Hospital (RCH) is inviting veterans to join their dedicated volunteer program to provide end-of-life care to other veterans and seniors in hospice. RCH is seeking veteran volunteers from all branches of service. Because of military experience, veterans share a mutual understanding of the physical and psychological trauma that service members face, and can help provide care and support that reflects the important contributions made by veterans. Hospice care allows a patient to come to terms with death and the family to accept and grieve. The hospice team consists of the patient’s doctor, a hospice nurse case manager who oversees the patient’s care, making sure patient is comfortable and pain-free, a home health aide, social worker, and chaplain. The focus of hospice care is to keep the patient comfortable and pain free. Patients have the right to decide what treatments they want and don’t want. RCH recently partnered with We Honor Veterans, an organization developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The partnership has allowed RCH to implement ongoing veteran-centered education for their staff and volunteers to help improve the care they provide to the veterans they serve.
