While passenger travel often receives the most public attention at airports, San Bernardino's greatest impact is increasingly found in cargo operations, aerospace development, and the thousands of jobs supported throughout the surrounding region.

The airport occupies the site of the former Norton Air Force Base, which served Southern California for nearly 50 years before closing in 1994. Rather than allowing the property to sit idle, local leaders envisioned a new future centered on economic development. Over the past three decades, that vision has steadily become reality as aviation businesses, aircraft maintenance companies, logistics firms, and distribution operations have established a presence at the airport.
