This year's American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Colton High School wasn't just an event; it was a vibrant testament to community spirit, unwavering hope, and a shared commitment to a future free from cancer. And this year, for the very first time, Grand Terrace proudly stepped onto the track with its own dedicated Relay For Life team, galvanized by the inspiring drive and leadership of Councilman Jeff Allen.
From the moment the event kicked off, an atmosphere of warmth, welcome, and amazing energy permeated Colton High. Laughter and enjoyment intermingled with moments of poignant remembrance, all fueling the collective hope for a cure. As team GT declared, with a passion echoed by many, “It’s more than just a walk. It’s a fight.”
Councilman Allen’s vision long with so many other community members to unite Grand Terrace in this crucial fight resonated deeply. He was joined by Mayor Bill Hussey and other esteemed council members, city representatives, local business owners, community members, family, and friends, all coming together in a powerful show of solidarity. Their participation not only highlighted Grand Terrace's growing commitment to philanthropy but also underscored the profound impact of collective action.
The success of the day was undoubtedly amplified by Event Director Matthew Hernandez and his incredible team, who orchestrated a truly beautiful and memorable Relay For Life. The 2025 Relay For Life was a spectacle of activity, featuring a diverse array of vendors, delicious food, fun fair games, and entertainment that kept spirits high throughout. The track pulsed with purpose as participants, including our own Grand Terrace team, competitively logged laps, driven by the knowledge that every lap counts and every minute matters in the relentless pursuit of a cure.
The spirit of community extended far beyond the track. The Colton Fire Department, Colton Police Department, Colton Cheer, and the wider Colton community were out in full force, joining over 30 teams in supporting one another. It was a day filled with inspiring stories, shared experiences, and a powerful demonstration of unified fundraising and support.
Colton High School has become a cherished, traditional home for the Relay For Life over the past few years, providing the perfect backdrop for this annual gathering of hope. The seamless partnership between the Colton and Grand Terrace teams this year marks the beginning of what we eagerly anticipate will be a continued tradition of collaboration and mutual support.
