"We are requesting your assistance in nominating individuals in the 23rd Senate District for this recognition. Three finalists will be selected as a “Patriot of the Past or the Present” in each of the following categories: Business, Education, Healthcare, Public Safety, and Community Service. One finalist will be selected for a special recognition as the “Patriot of the Past or Present” from each of these categories,"said State Senator Mike Morrell. Honorees must live or work in the 23rd Senate District, which includes: Rancho Cucamonga, Loma Linda, Redlands, San Bernardino, Highland, Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, Yucaipa, Hemet, Menifee, Sun City, Homeland, Nuevo, San Jacinto, Phelan, Piñon Hills, Wrightwood and the mountain communities including the areas of Big Bear Valley, Running Springs, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, Blue Jay and Twin Peaks. “Patriots” are defined as: • Patriot of the Past: A veteran of a conflict such as World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or other event. • Patriot of the Present: A currently enlisted service member, a reservist, a veteran of a recent conflict such as the Gulf War or Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a business or organization that currently serves veterans in some capacity. • Patriot of the Future: A young person under the age of 21 who has demonstrated a commitment to their community through volunteerism.
