Quartet Plays Way to All-WWPA Honors

After consecutive years of making the All-Western Water Polo Association second team, California Baptist University's Joseph Moorman made the leap to first-team honors when the conference released its 2015 awards Wednesday morning. Three other Lancers earned All-WWPA distinction, with one at each level. Brent Teraoka was a second-team member for the second year in a row, Tucker Angelo was an honorable mention and Tanner Shore was named to the All-Freshman team. Since CBU joined the WWPA in 2013, the Lancers have produced at least four all-conference players each season. CBU has secured its first winning season since joining the WWPA and NCAA, with a 16-12 record going into the WWPA Championships. The seventh-seed Lancers open the tournament, hosted by Air Force, against second-seeded Loyola Marymount Friday at 12:30 p.m. Essentially, the first-team award for Moorman, who is 94 saves away from becoming the career-saves leader for CBU, separates him as the WWPA goalkeeper of the year. This season, Moorman is averaging 13.82 saves a game in 25.25 games played. The Riverside native also has 29 steals and 14 assists. The junior's 349 saves this season already rank third in single-season history for the Lancers, with his 425 saves in 2014 setting a new record. After Moorman, CBU's top-two goal scorers (Teraoka and Angelo) were honored by the WWPA. For the second year in a row, Teraoka is leading the Lancers in goals scored, and this season he's also leading them in assists with 61 and 43, respectively. That's not to overlook his 19 steals, 14 drawn ejections, 12 field blocks and the fact he handles the majority of the team's sprinting duties each quarter. Angelo redshirted all of 2014 with an injury, and CBU coaches were eager to get him back in the lineup. It is evident why when you look at his stat line. As a freshman, he started every game and handled a lot of the grunt work, but this season he has been a virtuoso with the ball in his hand. The sophomore leads the team in drawn ejections with 32, is just five goals off Teraoka for second on the team with 56 scores and also has 17 assists. Defensively, he has 22 steals and 11 field blocks. Shore has been one of the most influential freshman in the program since perhaps Austen Ramer in 2009. The Corona native has started in all 28 games and put up some gaudy numbers along the way. While Shore's defense has been astounding with a team-high 49 steals and 12 field blocks, he has not shied away from any task. He is second on the team with 28 assists and also has 16 goals and 14 drawn ejections this season.
