As the Official Health Partner for Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) for the sixth consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente proudly joined forces with law enforcement agencies across Southern California in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), held to kick off the upcoming SOSC Summer Games. As a symbol of its commitment, select Kaiser Permanente facilities served as significant waypoints along the torch-run route, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to fostering inclusive communities and health equity.

“Kaiser Permanente is proud to support Special Olympics Southern California as The Official Health Partner and honored to stand alongside law enforcement agencies and team members to escort the Special Olympics torch through our local communities,” said Dr. Ramin Zolfagari, Kaiser Permanente Physician who serves on the Special Olympics Southern California Board of Directors. “We aim to provide medical sideline care and comprehensive health support by promoting health equity to exceptional athletes involved in the upcoming Summer Games. It is part of our duty to uplift, support and empower one another to foster an inclusive society where all individuals are embraced with open arms.”

This impactful event hosted over 2,000 law enforcement officers, preceding the SOSC Summer Games in ten days. The torch run began on May 30, 2023, and the route led runners through numerous cities across Southern California. The route included three participating Kaiser Permanente facilities in Chino Hills, West Los Angeles, and Woodland Hills. Employees joined SOSC athletes, families, and supporters to cheer on runners to escort the symbolic torch to its finish line.

At the Summer Games, Kaiser Permanente will provide medical support to more than 900 extraordinary athletes as their Official Health Partner this year. Participants will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals during the Summer Games at California State University Long Beach beginning on Saturday, June 10. The summer games will include sports competitions, live music, games, and sponsor booths.
