CHSB and SBMC’s 2027 Healthgrades recognitions include:

  •  America's Best Hospitals for Specialty Care: Cardiac and Gastrointestinal (CHSB) and Cardiac, Prostate Surgery, and Critical Care (SBMC)
  •  Specialty Excellence Award: Prostate Surgery (SBMC)
  •  National Ranking: One of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries for 3 Years in a Row and Top 15% in the Nation for Prostate Surgery (SBMC)
  • Five-Star Ratings: Treatment of Heart Failure and Gallbladder Removal Surgery for 3 Years in a Row (CHSB) and Treatment of Heart Failure for 6 Years in a Row, Prostate Removal Surgery for 3 Years in a Row, and Treatment of Sepsis for 3 Years in a Row (SBMC)

“Every patient who walks through our doors deserves to feel confident they are receiving exceptional care,” said Tony Coleman, President of CHSB and SBMC. “These recognitions reflect the remarkable expertise and dedication of our physicians, nurses and care teams, who work every day to deliver outstanding outcomes for the patients and families who trust us with their care. We are proud to see their commitment recognized on a national level.”

These achievements contribute to Dignity Health California's broader success, with hospitals across the state earning 170 specialty awards, ratings and distinctions in the 2027 Healthgrades evaluations. The recognitions span a wide range of specialties, including cardiovascular care, critical care, orthopedics, gastrointestinal care, neurosciences, pulmonary care, surgical care and outpatient services, among others, reflecting the region's continued commitment to clinical excellence and positive patient outcomes.

Healthgrades evaluates clinical performance at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. The importance of choosing a high-performing hospital extends beyond traditional inpatient care. Healthgrades' 2027 analysis found that patients treated at nationally recognized outpatient programs experienced better outcomes than those treated at facilities without comparable recognition. According to the analysis, 36,628 complications could have been avoided if all hospitals had performed at the level of five-star-rated facilities during the 2023–2025 study period.

“For patients in search of quality care beyond the four walls of the hospital, finding an outpatient

program that excels in their procedure can transform their health trajectory,” said Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “We’re proud to recognize CHSB and SBMC for their top-tier performance and commend its team for delivering exceptional patient outcomes when and where it matters most.”

Together, these accolades put CHSB and SBMC in the top tier of U.S. hospitals for outpatient care, reflecting their commitment to superior clinical outcomes for patients undergoing critical outpatient procedures.

*Statistical average based on Healthgrades’ analysis of SAF data for years 2023 through 2025 and represents a three-year estimate for Medicare patients only. For more information on how Healthgrades identifies the nation’s top hospitals for outpatient care, see the 2027 Outpatient Awards and Ratings Methodology.

An October City announcement draws attention to an everyday household practice with benefits for food budgets, kitchen safety and the environment. A basket of fresh produce can represent a week's worth of meals, the results of a successful backyard harvest or an unexpected bargain at the grocery store. Yet without proper storage, even the freshest fruits and vegetables can spoil before a family has an opportunity to use them.

An October announcement highlights how investigative technology and cooperation among law enforcement agencies can help solve crimes affecting Grand Terrace neighborhoods. For residents of Grand Terrace, home is more than an address. It is where families gather, children grow up and neighbors build relationships over many years. When a residential burglary occurs, the effects can extend beyond the property taken or damage caused. A crime inside someone's home can undermine the sense of security that makes a neighborhood feel safe.

The rumble of a commercial truck passing through a city can represent two very different things. For a business awaiting a delivery, it may signal the arrival of essential supplies. For residents living near a busy roadway, it may raise concerns about traffic, noise and safety. In Grand Terrace, finding a reasonable balance between those interests is at the center of an ongoing transportation planning effort.

A city is often judged by what residents experience every day: the condition of its streets, the reliability of public services, the availability of recreational programs and the ease of obtaining information from local government. Behind those everyday experiences are departments and employees whose work rarely attracts national attention.
