Happy Family Vegetarian is a small owned vegetarian restaurant located just outside Loma Linda and has served the community since 2008. The restaurant offers an array of Chinese food that is vegetarian friendly with vegan options available.

“Our original location is in Los Angeles and has been there for 30 years,” said Ben Onyang, Manager of Happy Family Vegetarian. “Before we opened this branch, our customers from Loma Linda would drive all the way to our Los Angeles location just for our food.”

Since opening in 2008, Happy Family has received much support from the community, “Loma Linda is a good city with good people who have been our customers for a very long time,” said Onyang. “We have customers who have come in since they were very young and then they go and get married, have children, and come back with their children.”

Happy Family serves to provide the community with healthy meatless options as Onyang states, “We are strict to provide vegetarian food with no MSG (monosodium glutamate). That’s why our customers especially love it because it has less oil and less salt.”

The restaurant has been fortunate even through tough times. “During the pandemic, we shortened our hours and only had take-out, but our customers supported us very much and our business was better than before the pandemic,” said Onyang.

Onyang continued to express his gratitude for their customers, “we have many customers from the SDA (Seventh Day Adventist) churches supporting our business, the Loma Linda Chinese SDA church, the Loma Linda Korean SDA church, and the Loma Linda University Church of Seventh-day Adventist. At the moment, we have a program that donates some portion of the sales back to the church to support them too. It’s important that we all support each other.”

“We have been in Loma Linda now for 15 years. Time is flying by,” exclaimed Onyang. “We’d like to thank the city of Loma Linda, all our guests for supporting the restaurant, and the Pan family of Loma Linda for supporting us. The city is really special to us and that’s why we want to give back as much as we can.”

Happy Family is located at 2150 S Waterman Ave East, San Bernardino CA 92408. For more information, visit them at www.sweetveg.com or call 909-783-8928.
