Over 100 examples of fine art produced by Southern California artists are currently on exhibit in the LLU Drayson (fitness) Center, at 25040 Stewart Street, and in the Loma Linda Civic Center, 25541 Barton Road. Photographers and artists who work in media ranging from traditional oil and watercolor to digitally-produced images of great charm, have contributed pieces that glow from the walls of the two unusual venues. The public is warmly invited to enjoy them during business hours. Drayson Center is open from 5:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Friday, the Center closes at 3:30 p.m. The Civic Center hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, marks the climax—though not the end--of the Festival’s visual arts offering, with a program in the Drayson Center, starting at 1:00 p.m. Of central interest will be the water color painting demonstration that guest artistJoseph Stoddard will provide. Following his demonstration, Stoddard, who has served as judge for the exhibit, will present awards to participating artists. He is expected to describe the criteria he has used in evaluating each work. A reception will end the event, during which attendees will have opportunity to visit and to meet Mr. Stoddard. Joseph Stoddard has worked for many years with SKA Design, an environmental graphics firm in South Pasadena. In 1984, he returned to an earlier passion: painting in the “challenging medium of water color”. He initially focused on his home town, Pasadena, finding opportunity in events, city projects, and the variety of city neighborhoods to create works that display his proficiency in sketching and masterful use of color. Stoddard aims for “an emotional response of charm and surprise” for those who see his work. Perhaps a key to our visual delight is his motto: “Never let reality get in the way of a good painting!” His paintings have appeared in various publications andgraced the covers of magazines. Stoddard has he has published three books: Pasadena Sketchbook, Redlands Sketchbook, and Expressive Color. Festival music recitals will feature the students of Loma Linda area piano instructors. They are three in number, beginning the afternoon of Sunday, May 4, in the Loma Linda Civic Center Community Room, 2:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and continuing Sunday, May 11, in the Collins Auditorium of the Drayson Center, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. The final afternoon of music returns to the Civic Center, with a program that begins at 1:00 p.m. and finishes at 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission to any of the above events. The public is most cordially invited.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
