The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) San Bernardino County Master Gardener Program is coordinating a free gardening event that will feature gardening experts on Sunday, June 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Humpty Dumpty House in Loma Linda. The “Experts in the Garden – Have Your Gardening Questions Answered” event, which is for novice and experienced gardeners, is designed to be a casual conversational experience in the beautiful gardens at the Humpty Dumpty House. Casual areas will be set up throughout the grounds of the Humpty Dumpty House gardens. Each area will have experts sharing their knowledge about a specific garden subject. In addition, docents will be available to answer questions about the gardens. The event will include representatives from the California Native Plant Society, Gates Cactus and Succulent Society and Rare Fruit Growers. Also: · San Bernardino Waste Management Division will cover composting; · Sims Tree Learning Center will cover vertebrate pest management (gophers, etc.); · Pond Diggers (designers of the Humpty Dumpty House pond) will talk about pond design using solar power, recycled water, water restrictions, pond water for irrigation of plants throughout the gardens, and edible pond plants. In addition, a number of other experts will be at the event to answer questions related to topics including dealing with drought, attracting butterflies, all about bees, citrus and avocado growing, vegetable gardens, and creating hypertufa. And a number of University of California Cooperative Extension master gardeners from San Bernardino County will be present. The San Bernardino County Master Gardener Program Coordinator, Dona Jenkins, will give workshops called, “Vermicomposting – Worm Power!!” at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Drawings will be held throughout the afternoon. The Humpty Dumpty House is located at 24630 University in Loma Linda.
