The 21st annual Foundation gala raised an astounding $635,000 for young patients at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on March 13. Much of the funds raised were made possible due to a collective group of generous corporate and personal sponsorships. “Our Gala and first-ever benefit concert was record breaking in several ways, and it would not have been possible without our amazing sponsors,” said LLUCH Foundation executive director, Jillian Payne. $635,000 was raised for the hospital, and the Gala garnered a record attendance of 1,039 guests. The inaugural benefit concert, featuring Jackie Evancho and the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra with special guest Hugo Ramos, attracted an additional 860 attendees. Over the past five years, the annual Foundation Gala has netted more than $3.1 million. While many of the sponsors were repeat contributors to the annual event, the Foundation also secured several first-time sponsorships, including that of the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs. “Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is a wonderful organization, one that Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs is proud to support,” said Andy Carpiac, owner, Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs. “We look forward to continuing our partnership, with the goal of brightening the futures of the children in our communities.” The Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs presented LLUCH with a $50,000 check during the resort’s official grand opening on March 6, 2014. New sponsors for this year’s event also included Hensel Phelps, Epic, Loma Linda University Eye Institute, Walmart, Arup, Loma Linda University Global Health Institute, PARAGON Construction Consulting, Inc., and Rudolph & Sletten.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
