Emanuel Angelo Zappia “Bud” 84, passed away at his home on Friday, Sept. 5 surrounded by his family. He was born one of 9 children on Oct. 30, 1929 to Joseph and Angelina Zappia in Chicago, Illinois. Those who will miss him include his wife and best friend Patricia Zappia; his two sons, Jim Zappia and wife Cathy, and Jon Zappia and wife Jane; two granddaughters Emily and Elizabeth; one sister Joyce Leiske; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph Zappia, John Zappia, SamZappia; sisters Grace Nigro, Mable Guerin, Tina Domenico, and Gloria Vannix. Angelo will be most remembered for the restaurant he opened in 1980 “Angelo’s” in Loma Linda, the sandwich shop which was his life-long dream. It is still operated by his two sons Jim and Jon and granddaughters who make the third generation of Zappias to work at Angelo’s. For many years he could be found working the front counter and making everyone feel welcome and loved. He is also very proud of the home he remolded with his two hands, dedication and hard work. His other hobbies include cars, woodworking, model trains and making everyone laugh while reminding us that life should be enjoyed with as many people as possible. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. at Azure Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church in Grand Terrace. Military honors ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery. Online condolences can be left on Weaver Mortuary’s website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation.
