On Sunday, June 10, the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association* presents JoAnn Formia, during the monthly meeting, from 2 to 4 pm. Formia is a Southern California-based watercolor artist, with a varied approach to her art. Her style, she states, is “dictated by the subject”.  Her favorite medium is transparent watercolor, and her demonstration will highlight her Impressionistic/Abstract use of this medium.  We are anticipating a fascinating afternoon!

“Life got in the way”, is a familiar phrase for many art-loving daubers, who, as young people cherished dreams of art in terms of a career.  Now in their middle and “golden” years, they find joy in the effort to recapture those moments.  JoAnn Formia confesses that “life” got in the way for her, too. She credits Robert Uecker’s watercolor classes during the ‘80s for a revival of her interest in art.  “Producing a successful piece of art is a challenge but one worth the effort, even if you are the only one it satisfies,” she states.

Once revived, Ms. Formia’s enthusiasm for painting has led her to become very active in the local, national, and global art world.  Having earned Signature Membership in Watercolor West, she has completed two terms as president of that prestigious international society. Her work has been accepted into many juried exhibitions in many venues. JoAnn’s awards are too numerous to cite in this short summary of her career.

The artist continues to enjoy trips, particularly in the West, that involve her with groups of other painters.  “These trips allow artists to learn from each other and enjoy the camaraderie of people with the same interests, a very inspiring and enriching experience,” she comments.  It is just that kind of friendly learning experience that attendees can expect on June 10!

The LLCAA* meetings are held in the LL Senior Center, located at the southeast corner of LL Civic Center complex, 25541 Barton Road, Loma Linda.  The public is invited; a $5.00 donation can be paid at the door.  LLU Students may attend without cost.
