This year there will be many of the same events as before and two of those events that will be held in 2018 are the annual Blue Mountain Hike and Movie in the Parks.  The Friends of the Blue Mountain will be hosting the hiking event in conjunction with the City, San Bernardino County Fire and the Sheriff’s Department.  Each of the hosts will be providing separate resources at the hike up Blue Mountain.  The event usually attracts over 1,000 hikers each year.  The starting time is scheduled for 8:00 a.m until 2:30 p.m in the afternoon.  The Blue Mountain Nature trail is hoping to receive a state grant, and city staff is working hard to promote this event so that the state can see there is a great demand for an additional nature trail in this local community.  As was done last year, staff will be looking into utilizing a Senior bus to pick up residents who want to participate in the hike up Blue Mountain.  A coordinated effort is in the works to try to get some food trucks to be located at the base of the mountain near the entrance point to provide some breakfast treats for the entrants.  The date of the event is scheduled for March 3, 2018.

Following this March event, a working committee will be meeting on or about April 10, 2018 to decide on the different dates the movie and music in the Park will be held.  In celebration of the City’s 40th Anniversary, the city is looking to host a summer movie series.  One movie will be shown in each city park (Susan Petta Park, Richard Rollins Park, Veterans Freedom Park and Grand Terrace Fitness Park). Each event will begin with a music prologue so that residents may come early and enjoy music before the main event (the movie).  The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will be looking to other community partners to help sponsor the movies in the Park program in the different parks.  The time frame of the showings will begin in June and end in August of this summer.  The City is hoping that the residents will enjoy reconnecting with the beauty of each of these parks.

An estimate of the costs for the Fabulous 40th Anniversary celebration this year is approximately $43,800.00.  The existing budget for the Blue Mountain Hike is $700.00, and the Movies and Music in the Park will cost approximately $1,200.  The proposed existing budget for the anniversary is $14,400, a special budget fund of $9,400 for the anniversary and possible donations of $20,000.  A total of 10 events are currently schedule for the year.
