The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health proudly announces the resounding success of its inaugural Summer Wellness Extravaganza, held on Saturday, July 20 at California State University San Bernardino. This vibrant community event attracted an impressive total attendance of 2,600 participants, all eager to engage in a day dedicated to health, wellness, and community connection.

In partnership with the Department of Aging and Adult Services, this event was completely free for attendees, aimed at fostering intergenerational connections and ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to partake in a variety of activities aimed at promoting emotional and physical well-being. The day was filled with:

  • Delicious Food: Attendees enjoyed a diverse selection of complimentary meals and snacks provided by local vendors, showcasing the culinary talents within our community.
  • Fun Games and Activities: Families and individuals participated in numerous games tailored for all ages. From classic carnival games, caricature artists, to interactive challenges, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Resource Tables included the Department of Public Health, First Tee, Inland Caregivers Resource Center and Raising Canes.
  • Carnival Rides: The event featured thrilling carnival rides that delighted children and adults alike. These attractions added an element of excitement and joy to the festivities.
  • Live Music: Local artists took the stage throughout the day, providing live music that created an energetic atmosphere. Attendees danced and sang along, fostering a sense of community spirit.

San Bernardino County collaborated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire, and attendees had the opportunity to learn about the positive impacts of mentoring relationships and how they contribute to personal growth and community resilience. The partnership highlighted the mental health benefits of mentoring programs, showcasing real-life stories of transformation and support.

"Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire was thrilled to partner with the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health for this event. Mentoring has a profound impact on mental health, providing young people and their families with the support and guidance they need to thrive, while also giving adult volunteers a sense of purpose. Community events like this remind us that we are all truly bigger and better together," said Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO, Sloane Keane.

The event featured a dedicated booth where attendees could speak with Big Brothers Big Sisters representatives, hear testimonials from current volunteers, and sign up for the mentoring program. The organization emphasized the urgent need for more volunteers of all ages to support the growing number of youths seeking positive role models.

“The Summer Wellness Extravaganza was not just an event; it was a celebration of our community’s resilience and commitment to behavioral health. We witnessed an incredible turnout, with families and individuals coming together to share experiences, learn about available resources, and participate in wellness activities. This gathering highlighted the importance of community support in fostering a positive emotional well-being. Together, we are breaking down stigma and building a healthier future for everyone”, said Department of Behavioral Health Director, Dr. Georgina Yoshioka.

Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with others while enjoying a fun-filled day without financial barriers. The event successfully brought together families, friends, and neighbors in a celebration of health and happiness.

Given the success of this year’s event, the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health is already planning future events aimed at enhancing community wellness. We are committed to continuing our efforts in promoting mental health awareness and providing accessible resources for all residents in the County of San Bernardino.
