Riverside County, CA -- First District, Riverside County Supervisor, José Medina, is notifying residents of an upcoming Caltrans pavement rehabilitation project, on State Route 91, in the City of Riverside. Construction began in February, spanning from just west of Van Buren Boulevard to just east of Madison Street, with work expected to continue through summer 2027.

The $31 million project aims to enhance safety and extend the lifespan of the freeway. Planned improvements include replacing outside lanes, repairing deteriorated concrete, upgrading on- and off-ramps, and installing new signs and guardrails along the corridor.

Construction will occur during both daytime and nighttime hours. Motorists should anticipate lane and ramp closures, including overnight, weekend, and occasional extended 55-hour closures. Initial striping work is set for Monday, February 9 - through Wednesday, February 11, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and is expected to cause overnight delays.

Early construction impacts will affect eastbound and westbound SR-91 between Tyler Street and Madison Street, as well as ramps at Indiana Avenue, Adams Street, Madison Street, and Van Buren Boulevard. Officials advise drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution in work zones to help ensure the safety of workers and fellow motorists. Construction schedules may change due to weather or operational needs.

Additional updates regarding closures will be shared as they become available. Residents can sign up for Inland Empire traffic alerts through Caltrans District 8, or visit build.ca.gov for statewide infrastructure project information.

For more details, contact Caltrans Public Affairs representative, Carolina Rojas, at (909) 289-2836 (or) Carolina.Rojas@dot.ca.gov. Individuals requiring alternate formats or language assistance may call (909) 383-4631 or TTY 711.
