The San Bernardino County Library and all of its branches invite the public to join in celebration of Read Across America with special storytimes, circulation incentives and more. From Thursday, Feb. 29 through Saturday, March 9, customers who check out 30 items with their library card and present those checkout receipts at the service desk will receive a limited edition literary-themed canvas tote bag, a nod to the classic “Little Golden Books.”

“The goal of this incentive program is to motivate children and teens to incorporate reading into their daily routine,” said County Librarian Melanie Orosco. “Each of these one-of-a-kind bags will have the quote ‘Read, Return, Repeat’ printed on them, which encourages customers to continue to show support to their local libraries.”

In addition to reading incentives, San Bernardino County Library branches will host fun programs for the entire family throughout the month of March including special storytimes, crafts, prizes and more. Library patrons should check with their local branch for more details or visit https://www.sbclib.org.

Read Across America, spearheaded by the National Education Association (NEA), serves as an annual reading initiative and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around March 2, the birthday of the beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss.

In support of the Vision2Read literacy campaign as well as San Bernardino County’s Opportunity Campaign, this program aims to improve literacy rates among children between the ages of 0 to 17 by inspiring an excitement to read, providing achievement goals  and encouraging a reading and art routine.  This celebration also directly supports San Bernardino County’s Opportunity Campaign. The San Bernardino County Library system is a dynamic network of 32 branch libraries that serves a diverse population over a vast geographic area. The county library system strives to provide equal access to information, technology, programs and services for all people who call San Bernardino County home.

The library plays a key role in the achievement of the Countywide Vision by contributing to the educational, cultural and historical development of our county community.
