Repaving Project Revitalizes Road in Trona

By County of San Bernardino

10/11/2021 at 03:19 PM

San Bernardino County Public Works completed a 12.62-mile pavement preservation project on Trona Road, between Searles Station Cutoff and Highway 395 in the Red Mountain/Searles area.

The three-week construction project started on Sept. 13 and was completed on schedule Oct. 1.  This section of Trona Road was closed during the duration of the project and a detour was provided. Public Works Operations 10-person crew worked during high 90-degree temperatures to complete the project with no mechanical or weather delays.

The repaving project consisted of applying a thin overlay of asphalt concrete to the existing lanes.  This repaving project helps to extend the life of the road and improve the road surface for travelers.  The project included new pavement markings for better, higher visibility both during the day and at night. Road repaving and repairs were regularly scheduled maintenance and not repairs due to recent earthquake damages in the area.
