Lego fans came far and wide to see over 75 unique creations at the Newton T. Bass Apple Valley Branch Library on Saturday, Aug. 24. The San Bernardino County Library (SBCL) encouraged patrons of all ages to participate in a special contest to build their own one-of-a-kind Lego creation.
“It was wonderful to see patrons of all ages come together from all across the county to share their engineering talents and promote literacy,” said County Librarian Melanie Orosco.

In addition, the event included jumbo block play, crafts and games.  Winners were honored in special award categories such as “most creative” and “most likely to become a kit sold in stores.”

As a result of its popularity, the SBCL department hopes to host this Lego building event at other locations, encouraging patrons to stay tuned for more events like this in their local area.  For more information, patrons can visit sbclib.org or call (909) 387-2220.

This event is another opportunity to celebrate and support the Countywide Vision’s literacy campaign, Vision2Read as well as San Bernardino County’s newest Opportunity Campaign.

The SBCL system is a dynamic network of 32 branch libraries that serves a diverse population over a vast geographic area. The County Library system strives to provide equal access to information, technology, programs and services for all people who call San Bernardino County home.

The County Library plays a key role in the achievement of the Countywide Vision, by contributing to educational, cultural and historical development of our county community.
