In Memory of Hans Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, FACN

Hans Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, FACN passed away on August 2, 2023, at Loma Linda University Medical Center from an AFib-related stroke.

Dr. Diehl was a beloved and well-renowned mentor, professor, best-selling author, speaker, and researcher who dedicated more than half his life to promoting healthier communities.

He was the founder of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute, a reputable institution committed to fostering healthier lifestyles and preventing chronic diseases; a professor of preventative medicine at Loma Linda University School of Medicine; was the visionary behind the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP), a comprehensive lifestyle intervention dedicated to making lasting, positive changes in an individual’s live; and was honored as “One of America’s 20 Health Superheroes.”

With several significant publications, Dr. Diehl co-authored books such as Health Power, the Optimal Diet Cookbook, Take Charge of Your Health, and You-Turn.

Dr. Diehl's contributions and motivations for medicine were to be further acknowledged with the reputable Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, an award presented to individuals who have been devoted to the cause of Lifestyle Medicine for half of all their lives or more, scheduled to be presented to him this November.

Dr. Diehl was a true champion of preventative medicine and dedicated his life’s work to further promote healthier communities; he motivated and encouraged millions to take charge of their health and begin on a journey towards a better, more vibrant life. His departure will leave a hole in the medicine world, but his impact and legacy in public health and lifestyle medicine will live on.
