On December 23rd, 2022, at approximately 8:00 PM, Colton police officers responded to multiple reports of a disturbance in the 1800 block of South Cordova Ave in the city of Colton. Upon arrival, patrol officers contacted some of the parties involved, including the victim. Investigation revealed that suspect Derion James repeatedly struck the victim with a blunt object. The victim sustained multiple serious injuries during the altercation. The victim was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for his injuries. The victim later passed away due to the injuries he sustained during the incident. Colton PD Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation. On 01/18/24, Colton PD Detectives followed up on investigative leads, which led them to contacting suspect Derion James in the 600 block of Pine Street in the city of Upland. James was detained without incident and transported to Colton PD for processing. James was arrested for homicide and booked into West Valley Detention Center. The Colton Police Department will be continuing the criminal investigation.
