ALL>> With the diagnosis of a Cal State San Bernardino student with active tuberculosis, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health officials, in collaboration with the university, will be sending notifications to students, the parents of students under eighteen, as well as faculty and staff who may have been exposed to the illness.

The student, who lives off campus, is receiving treatment and is expected to recover, although the individual will not return to school until a medical clearance is issued by the health department. The student is not being identified due to confidentiality requirements.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health recommends that anyone who receives the public health notice be screened for TB infection at his or her medical provider or at clinics being planned at CSUSB on Monday, June 12, and Tuesday, June 13, at a location yet to be determined. Those who do not receive notification from the health department are not considered to be at risk for exposure.

San Bernardino County Department of Public Health officials and the CSUSB Student Health Center will hold a public forum regarding tuberculosis and testing on Thursday, June 8, from 3-5 p.m. at the Panorama Room in the university’s Lower Commons.

“Cal State San Bernardino is committed to campus health and safety. I encourage anyone who receives a notice to call the CSUSB Student Health Center on campus to schedule an appointment for a TB test at (909) 537-5241,” said Brian Haynes, vice president of the CSUSB Division of Student Affairs.
