The public is invited to the Sickle Cell Patient Fair on Sunday, Sept. 21, hosted by LLUMC East Campus. The free event is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Tom and Vi Zapara Rehabilitation Pavilion, Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus, 25333 Barton Rd. in Loma Linda. “The Sickle Cell Patient Fair is a celebration of life. It is a fair that celebrates the ability of the human spirit to overcome illness and live life whole,” said Dr. Ron Brathwaite, family care physician at Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus and organizer of the event. “We are having the fair to celebrate life and all of its possibilities despite the challenge of chronic illness,” he said. The fair will feature healthy cooking demonstrations, exercise demonstrations, live music, and other activities. Starletta Simmons, founder and president of Sickle Cell Foundation of Orange County and the mother of two children with Sickle Cell Disease, is the special guest speaker at the event.
