A suspect who allegedly possessed dozens of envelopes not addressed to him was taken into custody July 22, according to a release issued by San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials. At approximately 11:55 p.m. on July 22, Bermudez was approached by Deputy Tabor from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Central Station - Loma Linda as he was standing in front of a closed business in Loma Linda, according to the release. Bermudez was apparently found to be on active felony probation in San Bernardino County for forgery. A probation check on Bermudez's property uncovered he possessed more than 20 envelopes of mail not addressed to him, according to sheriff's officials. The addresses were all out of Loma Linda; deputies located several open mail boxes, were able to locate several victims and return their mail, deputies said. According to the release, "the victims did not know Bermudez and he did not have permission to be in possession of their mail." Bermudez was booked into Central Detetion Center for theft of mail, possession of stolen property and violation of probation. If you see suspicious subjects around your community mail boxes or in your neighborhood looking through mailboxes, you are urged to call your local law enforcement agency. Mail theft can affect you financially and have a lasting negative effect on your credit.
