The Big Hearts for Little Hearts Desert Guild is kicking off its exciting 2013–2014 season with the first of three annual Lunch and Learn cooking demonstrations benefiting Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH). The first event of the season will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Catalan Restaurant, 70026 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, Calif. “I am always excited to see everyone participating in these fun and worthwhile events benefiting Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital,” said Desert Guild President Joyce Engel. “This is an excellent opportunity for our Guild to reacquaint themselves with current members, as well as meet potential new members in the community.” Executive Chef of Catalan Restaurant, Drew Davis, will present a three-course menu for all guests to enjoy. He will demonstrate how to prepare the meals, and guests will be able to take recipes home from the luncheon. Engel continued, “In the nine years that we have been hosting these Lunch and Learn Cooking Demonstrations at area restaurants, our guests always seem pleased to learn new skills and obtain new recipes they are able to take home and share with their families, all while learning valuable insight about the only dedicated pediatric hospital in the region. Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital serves children living in the Coachella Valley who require critical care that is unavailable locally.” To complete the season, there will be two additional Lunch and Learn cooking demonstrations held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at Vintage Country Club in Indian Wells, and on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage. Tickets for these Lunch and Learn cooking demonstrations are $75 per person for Guild members and $90 per person for non-members. Due to limited seating, reservations can only be held with accompanying payment. The Big Hearts for Little Hearts Desert Guild was founded in 2002 to serve the community and its children through action and leadership while emphasizing children’s health care needs. The Desert Guild is committed to supporting the children at LLUCH by developing projects that address the critical needs of hospitalized children and their families. Since the Desert Guild began, other guilds have developed in communities served by LLUCH. The Desert Guild is focused on raising funds to ensure critical medical care for the children of the Coachella Valley.
