Loma Linda firefighters recently responded to a medical aid call on the 10000 block of north Mt. View in Loma Linda at 12 noon. The patient was found in severe distress and was transported immediately to Loma Linda University Medical Center for evaluation. After making contact with the patient, emergency department staff determined that a possible hazardous materials exposure risk was present. The staff declared an “internal disaster” to proactively mitigate any potential exposure to hazardous materials. All emergency room patients were relocated. The patient was isolated and further testing continued. Concurrently, the site of the original call on Mt. View was evaluated by the San Bernardino County Fire Hazardous Material Team and cleared of any danger or health concerns. No hazardous materials were detected in the emergency room and the “internal disaster” status at Loma Linda Medical center was lifted at approximately 2 p.m. All involved fire and ambulance personnel were evaluated at the medical center and were released with no health concerns.
