Gary Grossich, owner of Nickelodeon Pizza in Colton, gave full reign to members of the reality TV show, Rusted Development, as they customized his 1937 Dodge Pickup, a treasured vehicle his father had started repairing before he passed away. After his parents had divorced, Grossich was raised by his father, a busy man who had found a hobby with fixing cars and attending vehicle swap meets in his spare time. “Old cars are good therapy,” said Grossich. “You forget all of your troubles, and meet a lot of nice people.” Wanting to be close with his father, Grossich also took an interest in cars. “It became our thing,” he said. After his father had passed away from colon cancer, Rusted Development discovered Grossich and produced a documentary on the vehicle’s transformation as well as the shared hobby between him and his father. The story also included aspects of the Colton community. "They've been so great to me,” said Grossich at the viewing party at Nickelodeon Pizza on Wednesday, Sept. 23. “This whole thing is a blessing." TV star, Rick Dore, and fellow shop members commuted from afar to attend the viewing celebration, an event which they had helped to support. Twenty-percent of the proceeds from Nickelodeon Pizza, Grossich’s business, were donated to the Colton Relay for Life, an organization affiliated with the American Cancer Society. Grossich himself had participated in countless Relay for Life events, and wanted to take this opportunity to give back to the community. "It was our blessing and we wanted to do something good for Colton," he said. He and his wife, Sandy, welcomed important guests from the city at the viewing party, and wowed the crowd as they unveiled their freshly repaired truck. Following the unveiling was the showing of the documentary. The episode, titled “Hemi Hideaway,” premiered Monday, Sept. 21, and can be accessed via discoverchannel.com. The public can also find the show on cable television throughout the upcoming month.
