In a community that is comprised of a diverse population with a higher than national average poverty rate, the people having the most lasting impact on the community are the educators. "The power to build a better community is in our own hands and our best weapon for positive change lies in the education we give our children," stated Kim Carter, Executive Director of Time for Change Foundation. On April 15, Time for Change Foundation will hold their 13th Annual Star Studded Awards Gala to honor the innovative work and dedication of passionate leaders in the community. This year's event highlights the amazing contributions of the current leadership in education. The Public Education Dynamic Duo Award highlights the combined synergy of Dr. Dale Marsden and Dr. Harold Vollkommer, who have significantly increased graduation rates by implementing continuous improvement activities to strengthen the district's culture of excellence. Additionally, the team has implemented a robust career pathway from elementary through high school developing the skills and certifications necessary to succeed in both college and career. Additionally, the Community Education Champion Award goes to Dr. Tomas D. Morales, president of CSUSB for his life-long dedication to improving the access and quality of public higher education. Dr. Morales is one of the few higher education administrators in the United States who has held senior administrative positions at the three largest public university systems in the nation. He took the reins at CSUSB just as higher education in California was trying to emerge from the depths of the Great Recession. Under his leadership, Cal State San Bernardino has undergone a post-recession renaissance and is poised to create the educated workforce that is critical to improve the economic stimulus for this region. "It is our honor to recognize this passionate dedicated educator for his outstanding leadership," expressed Kim Carter. Time for Change Foundation's 13th Annual Star Studded Awards Gala will take place on Friday April 15, 2016 at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Ontario, CA from 6 to 9 p.m.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
