CONFIRE's dispatchers have a special superpower of being the real first responders via telecommunications. Each year, CONFIRE dedicates the second full week of April to those who serve as public safety dispatchers and communications personnel. San Bernardino County Fire honors the dedicated dispatchers of the Consolidated Fire Agencies of San Bernardino County (CONFIRE) who serve as the first responders when county residents and visitors dial 9-1-1.

The week-long event known as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week was initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Office.

CONFIRE is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) located in San Bernardino County California established to provide communications, dispatch, computer information systems support (IS), and geographic information systems (GIS) to CONFIRE members and contract agencies.

The CONFIRE Communications Center's, also known as the Comm Center, has a primary function to provide 24-hour/365-day direct fire, EMS, and rescue dispatch services to CONFIRE’s member and contract agencies. Beyond the direct fire dispatch role, Comm Center also functions as the San Bernardino County (XBO) operational area dispatch, which provides large incident coordination for fire, local government, and emergency medical resources on a countywide basis. Comm Center also provides after-hours dispatch services for local government, such as County Public Health and Road Departments, and the City of Loma Linda.

San Bernardino County Fire Department thanks the CONFIRE team for their hard work and dedication to safety and excellence.
