LOMA LINDA >> Michael Situ, widely regarded as one of the finest contemporary painters working in the California Impressionist style, will demonstrate his painting techniques and talk about his passion for the landscapes of the Golden State at the Aug. 7 meeting of the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association. The meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Loma Linda Senior Center, 25541 Barton Road in Loma Linda. Admission is free for LLCAA members and students of Loma Linda University, but $5 for everyone else. Born in China, Situ was educated at the prestigious Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, where he developed a deep appreciation for nature and a passion for artistic expression. Currently a full-time professional artist, his work is exhibited in numerous national competitions, museums, galleries and private and corporate galleries. His award-winning paintings of the California landscape have been displayed at Arts for the Parks Top 100 International Competition, the Oil Painters of America’s Annual National Juried Exhibition, the California Art Club’s annual Golden Medal Juried Exhibition and numerous similar venues. “What strikes me the most about Michael Situ’s work is that it is ripe and luscious,” said Sharan Bennett, JD, president of LLCAA. “He just pulls every possible color out of the scene and amplifies it to create a mood or an impression. His presentation will be an excellent educational opportunity for painters at all levels of experience to gain insight into how this contemporary master finds inspiration from the landscape.” Situ maintains a studio gallery at 3251 Laguna Canyon Road #H3 in Laguna Beach. His work may also be seen online at www.michaelsitu.com.
