SAN BERNARDINO, CA – The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for fire station 226 located at 1920 N. Del Rosa Ave. in San Bernardino. The new 9,867 square foot fire station will sit on a 2.5-acre lot and feature a three-bay design that will house additional emergency services apparatus and equipment. The existing station, which was built in 1979, will be demolished after the construction of the new building.

“The County Board of Supervisors truly appreciates the hard work and dedication of our men and women who serve in the Fire District,” said Third District Supervisor and Board Chair Dawn Rowe. “The Board has invested millions of dollars in training, equipment and capital improvements across the region. These improvements are extremely necessary to protect and support our communities. It is truly an honor to celebrate the investment of the Board on behalf of those who serve.”

Station 226 serves the Del Rosa neighborhood, which includes Aquinas High School, Pacific High School, Perris Park and Perris Hill. In 2022, firefighters from station 226 responded to 6,755 calls for service.  The larger, more modern station will enable County Fire to provide expanded emergency services and enhance public safety in the service area.

“Public safety is an important issue for our community,” said Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “As county representatives, we want to ensure that our residents get the service that they need and deserve. This is a big investment in our community.”

The San Manuel Tribe of Mission Indians have also partnered with the county by contributing $3.5 million dollars for a reciprocal exchange of fire, rescue and emergency medical services from the County Fire Protection District over a 10-year period. The total budget for the station is nearly $10.2 million.

“I’m extremely grateful to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors for their partnership and investment in helping our firefighters continue to protect the Del Rosa neighborhood in San Bernardino,” said San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey. “This groundbreaking ceremony serves as an example of the commitment from each agency to continue to protect and serve the residents of the city of San Bernardino and residents all over San Bernardino County.”

The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2024. During the construction phase, firefighters will continue to respond to emergency calls in the neighborhood.
