Big Horn Sheep Return

Big horn sheep are back in our local mountains and have definitely made their presence known around Forest Falls. Drivers on Highway 38 should be watching for them, especially near the intersection of Highway 38 and Valley of the Falls Drive. Some members of the herd are being a bit careless and have been seen wandering out onto the highway.

Residents and visitors should be on the lookout for the big horn sheep and help to keep the population safe. It's mating season for big horn sheep which makes them more inclined to follow their instincts anywhere they may lead, even right into traffic. A collision with one of these large animals could have deadly consequences for the animal and the driver. Humans should also refrain from attempting to feed the sheep or any other wild animals in the mountain communities.

San Bernardino County Public Works is adding information to the flashing message board on Highway 38 to remind motorists to exercise caution and keep an eye out for wildlife. Permanent signs will eventually be installed on Highway 38 to serve as a year-round reminder to be on the lookout for animals during your mountain travels.
