LOMA LINDA>> On Thursday, March 9, 2017, Deputy B. Ortiz conducted a traffic stop in the 26000 Block of Barton Road in Loma Linda. During his contact with the passengers of the vehicle, he discovered passenger Richard Garcia, 41-year-old male, resident of Colton, was in possession of drug paraphernalia. While Ortiz was arresting Garcia, another passenger in the vehicle ran from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle also distracted Ortiz which allowed for the passenger to flee. Ortiz ran after the suspect. Deputies Leon and Reyes assisted and located the passenger running through a nearby residential area. The passenger was identified as Joe Almanza, 51-year-old male, resident of Redlands. A concealed weapon (dirk or dagger) was located on Almanza. A records check on Almanza identified he had an active no bail warrant for his arrest. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Victor Gomez, 35-year-old male, resident of Redlands. Gomez was arrested for obstructing Ortiz in the performance of his duties. The three suspects were all booked at the Central Detention Center for their respective charges. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Central station at (909) 387-3545.
