The turnout was wonderful as family and friends joined Linda Valley Villa resident Betty Streifling as she celebrated her 101st birthday in the parlor at Linda Valley Villa on Aug. 28. While being surrounded by so many people that care for her, Betty, whom grew up on a farm in Manitoba, Canada enjoyed a lovely tea that would make the Queen herself a little jealous. Betty was the eighth child of thirteen born to Ernestine and Frederick Sieg. A colporteur for many years, Betty would ride horseback to canvas many scattered farms in hopes of selling her books. She later attended Walla Walla University where she met her future husband, Walter. They were married in 1938 and during their time together worked to build churches as well as hope for others. Walter passed away in 1982 after many wonderful years of marriage. They also had two sons and one daughter. Only one son remains as both her son and daughter died of cancers in their forties. Her loving son and daughter-in-law are often the topic of conversations with Betty as they are very attentive to her. These days, Betty enjoys her exercise classes at the Villa as well as her long walks. She was the first resident to move into Linda Valley Villa at one hundred years of age!
