Tragedy and loss turns our world upside down and occurs when we least expect it. Acknowledging the loss and moving forward can create anxiety especially for people who believe that letting go means forgetting the person they have lost. Paulina Jaramillo, in her three-part Healing from Loss workshops, takes participants through the various stages of grieving and healing, enabling them to let go of the sorrow and embrace the memories they shared together. Although many of the attendees that participate in the workshops are dealing with bereavement, the workshops are designed to help with other type of losses: Divorce, employment, foreclosure, health, etc. Some of the topics covered in the workshop include: fear, hurt, anger, guilt, depression, letting go and moving forward. Paulina has a Master's degree in Rehab Counseling and is registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Intern. She has written two books on grief recovery and has worked with families and youth in several capacities, including crisis intervention. Her hands-on experience has given her valuable insight into the damaging effects of trauma resulting from loss and the importance of dealing with negative emotions in order to heal. The next Healing From Loss Workshop is scheduled to begin on Oct. 5, from 1-3 p.m. at the Loma Linda Senior Center, located at 25571 Barton Rd. For additional information and to register, visit www.Grief-Recovery.org.
