Calimesa ‘Camp Meetings’ Ending With Free Concert Aug. 26

LOMA LINDA>> A month-long series of church-sponsored events for families in Calimesa and nearby communities will conclude with a free public concert by Christian Edition, an Inland Empire-based men’s chorus, on August 26. Under the direction of Calvin Knipschild, it will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Calimesa Seventh-day Adventist Church, 391 Myrtlewood Dr., Calimesa.

Saturday morning worship services at the Calimesa church through August have been following a “camp meeting” theme, with come-as-you-are casual dress and music reminiscent of a bygone tent-meeting era. Guest speakers at 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. on the final two August Saturdays are Jeffrey Gang, D.Min., on August 19, and Zdravko Plantak, Ph.D., on August 26. Both speakers hold faculty positions at Loma Linda University School of Religion.

Adding appeal to the morning services for community families have been drama, stories, and performances by the Calimesa Puppets, according to church pastor Jon Ciccarelli.

Guest musicians featured in the final Saturday morning services include Christian Edition, Conner Smith Trio, Johnson Family Quartet, and Loma Linda Brass. Also contributing will be keyboard artists Carole Derry-Bretsch, Gary Donesky, and Michael Fillman.

On each August Saturday a free potluck lunch is provided by the church following the 11:15 service.
