The Pacific Life Foundation awarded Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside a $10,000 grant to support the Club’s Power Hour program. Club staff received the grant at Pacific Life’s annual reception at the insurance company’s Newport Beach headquarters Jan. 21. Boys & Girls Clubs was one of three Inland Empire organizations awarded a 2016 grant. “This group always has great buzz to it, a great optimism,” Pacific Life President and CEO Jim Morris told non-profit staff at the reception. The foundation is giving away more than $6 million this year, he said. They support a range of causes including education, health and human services, animal and environmental conservation – mainly in Orange County and the Omaha, Nebraska, area. Power Hour is a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program for all Boys & Girls Club members ages 5 to 18. Power Hour’s purpose is to help young people develop academic and behavioral skills through homework completion. The program also offers tutoring in areas where members need help, and Bright Spot for Literacy, which helps youth develop their reading skills and encourages them to read more potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
