CBU Ranked Third in the Region

California Baptist University was ranked third in the region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), with Andy Crowley picked as a preseason All-Region first-teamer. The senior was the team's offensive spark plug and defensive anchor in center field in 2014. In Division II, Crowley ended his junior season ranked fifth in hits with a total of 91, 33rd in batting average with a record of .399, 45th in doubles with a total of 17 and 81st in runs scored with a total of 48 The Lancers went 39-15, 20-12 in the PacWest last year to qualify for the playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons under head coach Gary Adcock. They entered the Division II Regionals as the third seed and advanced all the way to the semi-finals. Chico State and UC San Diego, the two teams that finished above CBU in the region in 2014, were respectively ranked No. 1 and 2 by the NCBWA with 59 and 55 points. CBU received 46 points, while PacWest-rival Dixie State was ranked fourth with 40 points. Azusa Pacific (sixth, 20 points), Fresno Pacific (seventh, 19 points) and Hawaii Pacific (receiving votes, nine points) also appeared in the preseason rankings. CBU will face fifth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona during the regular season. The Broncos will get the Lancers in Pomona for three games beginning on Feb. 26th at 2 p.m. and the series finale doubleheader is also being played in Pomona Feb. 28th at noon. The Lancers will open the season Feb. 5th at Cal State L.A. at 6 p.m. before getting the Golden Eagles at Totman Stadium Feb. 6th for opening day at 6 p.m. CBU will also be hosting its annual Alumni Day Jan. 31 at Totman Stadium.
