Community members turned out in droves, netting Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) PossAbilities a total of 45 wheelchairs, 12 sets of crutches, and six walkers for Joni and Friends Wheels for the World. On Sept. 20, LLUH PossAbilities and Joni and Friends Wheels for the World teamed up for the third year for an annual wheelchair drive. Over the next few months, the wheelchairs and other items that were collected will be cleaned, refurbished, and distributed worldwide to people who need them. Wheels for the World provides free wheelchairs, along with a copy of the Bible, to children and adults affected by disability worldwide. PossAbilities is a community outreach program developed by Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus and supported by founding partner, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. PossAbilities’ goal is to offer physically challenged people born with or having suffered from permanent injury a sense of community by offering activities and practical help, supporting LLUH’s mission of “continuing the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ.”
