COLTON>> San Bernardino Valley College has recently named Bill Norris the school’s new Sports Information Specialist.

Norris, who graduated with his Associates of Arts degree from Valley College last month, joins the Wolverines’ athletic department after spending the past four seasons as the Director of Media Relations for the Ontario Fury professional arena soccer team. He has spent the last 28 years working in the sports and communications fields, working as a sports reporter and editor for The Orange County Register, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, San Bernardino Sun and The Press-Enterprise.

“I am so glad to have the chance to help the student-athletes of my alma mater grow and extend their sports career,” Norris said. “Besides reporting their accomplishments, I hope that we can help the student-athletes build their own brands on social media channels, so they can responsibly take control of their futures.”

“We are happy to have found someone like Bill who has experience working both in and with the media,” said Valley College Athletic Director David Rubio. “We believe he is going to be a great asset to our students and program.”

Bill was born and raised in Orange County, starting with the Anaheim Bulletin at the age of 19. He covered his first Angels game at the age of 21, and was with the Register and its affiliated weeklies covering the launch of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Besides handling media relations for the Fury the past four seasons, he has written sports stories for the Southern California News Group. He has covered all levels of sports, from the youth level, to high schools and colleges, as well as the covering the Ontario Reign for the past four seasons.

Norris has lived in the Inland Empire for the past 20 years, currently residing in Colton. He is married with a son. He will also be continuing his education this fall at Cal State San Bernardino, majoring in English. He is a big fan of the Los Angeles Kings, and a devoted consumer of comic books and their related TV shows and movies.
