Somerford Place Alzheimer’s Assisted Living, located in Redlands, celebrated 15 years of service on Nov. 13. Horderves and fine wines were served to residents, residents' guests, and the community. Somerford Place was presented by Senator Mike Morrell’s Office with a certificate of recognition for service. David Matza presented the award to Jennifer Castaneda, who has been the marketing director for the facility for the past four years. In 1992, the founder of Somerford Place, Dr. Michael Carrick (who passed away on July 31 of this year), a graduate from Loma Linda University along with Dr. Alan Pierrot, created a company called Heritage partners, which later changed to Somerford Corporation. They opened their first Somerford Place in Fresno in 1996, and Somerford Place Redlands began accepting there first residents in November of 1999. "Dr. Carrick helped create California’s first centers focused on assisted living for Alzheimer’s disease. It was great to celebrate this 15-year landmark and we are looking forward to many more years to come," said Castaneda. Somerford Place is home to over 60 well accomplished individuals who now suffer from this tragic disease.
