LOMA LINDA>> On Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at about 8:22 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 26600 block of Romero Road in the county area of Loma Linda following the report of a man with a gun. While deputies were responding, Sheriff’s aviation arrived on scene. As they flew overhead, they observed a male subject armed with a shotgun, breaking into the residence through a window. At the same time, the victims were on the phone with 911 dispatchers advising that the male subject broke into the residence, was armed with a shotgun, and was now holding them hostage. Deputies from Sheriff’s Central Station, Loma Linda, Grand Terrace and the city of Highland arrived and surrounded the residence. Officers from the City of Redlands Police Department also responded to assist. During that time, one victim was able to escape from the residence and make contact with deputies. The victim advised her cousin was still inside the residence with her boyfriend, Isaac Castillo, who was armed with a shotgun and threatening to kill her. Sheriff’s deputies began evacuating residents in the area as they secured a perimeter around the victim’s residence. Multiple announcements were made in to the residence using a PA system, in an effort to gain Castillo’s safe surrender. After Castillo refused to exit, deputies requested the assistance of the Sheriff’s SWAT Team. The SWAT Team arrived and assumed control of the incident. After eight hours of negotiations, Castillo surrendered to SWAT personnel. The second victim was then able to exit the residence as she was found to be unharmed. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Central Station continued the investigation and served a search warrant at the residence. Detectives located a stolen, loaded sawed off shotgun that Castillo had been armed with during the incident. Detectives determined Castillo is on active CDC parole and currently has a NO Bail Parole Violation warrant out for his arrest. Castillo is a convicted Felon, recently released from prison for prior weapons violations. Castillo is also a documented member of a local criminal street gang with a history of violence. Castillo was booked into the Central Detention Center where he is being held without bail. Both victims were interviewed by detectives and were uninjured during the incident. On Dec. 29, the report was presented to the district attorney’s office for review. The district attorney’s office filed the following felony charges against Castillo: criminal threats, residential burglary, false imprisonment, felon possess firearm, and under the influence of narcotics while armed with a gun. During the investigation it was determined that Castillo had stolen the shotgun on Christmas day, and may have used the gun to commit other crimes. Detectives are releasing the booking photo of the suspect and encourage other victims to contact the Detective Bureau if you were victimized by Isaac Castillo. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Central Station Detective Bureau at (909) 387-3545.
