Sunday, Oct. 5, approximately 1200 street rods, custom cars and motorcycles will be on display on the beautiful tree-lined grounds of Loma Linda Veteran’s Hospital as part of the 24th annual Volunteers for Veterans Foundation/Veterans Car Show. From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity drawing, silent and live auctions, pancake breakfast, variety of food available, Bingo, t-shirt, 50/50, trivia quiz, coloring contest, model car contest and scavenger hunt for the kids. Cars attending must be pre-registered. There is no charge for spectators. Sorry, no pets, go-peds, scooters, bicycles, skateboards, or roller blades allowed. This October show is one of the highlights of the year and all funds raised through entry, opportunity drawing, live and silent auction are used to help our veterans and active military in some way. The Volunteers for Veterans Foundation provides emergency financial assistance to veterans and active military personnel and provides specific services at the hospital. At the auction this year is a one-of-a-kind collectors tool box that has been autographed by 43 of the Custom Car Hobby’s greatest legends and master car builders will be available for bid. Those who have autographed include: Chip Foose, George Barris, Gene Winfield, Rick Dore, John D’Agostino, Rod Powell, Jack Stewart and many more. Every signature is authenticated by a photo album. This is a must have piece for collectors of Hot Rod memorabilia. The tool box will be sold to the highest bidder the day of the show. Phone bidders are welcome, after pre-qualification. For a complete list of signatures or any questions please call 909-350-9816 or e-mail vetcarshow2002@aol.com. For a great video of the 2013 car show, visit https://vimeo.com/84186963.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
