The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) has been awarded a $3,945,906 grant from the California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA), with proceeds allotted for the construction of a new 16-bed Crisis Residential Treatment (CRT) facility in San Bernardino. The facility will specialize in providing crisis intervention for individuals diagnosed with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders. Services will include, but will not be limited to, assessments, treatment plan development, crisis intervention, medication support services, and individual and group therapy. The facility will serve approximately 332 individuals adult individuals annually, with an average stay of up to two weeks per individual. The CRT facility will assist DBH in implementing statewide goals by expanding access to crisis services within the county, with the hope of minimizing law enforcement involvement and reducing costs to local law enforcement and hospital emergency departments. “I thank the California Health Facilities Financing Authority for awarding the grant to the Department of Behavioral Health,” San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman James Ramos stated. “The grant will assist the DBH in building housing for a new Crisis Residential Treatment program. That means increased support for our residents that are in need of mental health services. In the County of San Bernardino, we strive to facilitate access of services to our residents.” The DBH received the formal agreement from CHFFA on Feb. 4 in the amount of $3,945,906 for the period of Dec. 4, 2014 through June 30, 2016. The DBH currently intends to use an existing county-owned location in the 700 block of Gilbert Street in San Bernardino.
