Representatives from the Anaheim Ducks, including their feathery mascot, Wild Wing, visited patients at LLU Cancer Center (LLUCC) on May 20. Wild Wing and two Ducks Power Players interacted and took photos with patients who were receiving treatment in the infusion center as well as others throughout the clinic. “We’re thrilled with the success of the commemorative hockey stick program and are pleased to take part in such worthwhile work,” said Tim Ryan, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Anaheim Ducks. “Our organization takes great pride in being an active community partner and we look forward to teaming with Loma Linda on additional programs that support those in need.” Wild Wing and the rest of the Ducks who visited the hospital also presented LLUCC a check for $23,500. The funds were raised by selling commemorative mini hockey sticks signed by those players who participated in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Approximately 800 sticks were sold during the game on March 2 and for a limited time online. “Visits from Wild Wing and the Ducks Power Players are one distraction our patients and staff enjoy,” said Judy Chatigny, executive director for LLUCC. “The Cancer Center is so appreciative of the support provided by the Anaheim Ducks, and we are looking forward to future opportunities to work with the team.”

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
