Claude Monet taught the world to experience light as he strove to capture his impressions of the beauty of 19th-century France. At the August meeting of the Loma Linda Cultural Art Association (LLCAA), Southern California artist Tom Brown will demonstrate his 21st Century California-based visions of light. The Aug. 2 meeting takes place at the Loma Linda Senior Center, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Senior Center is located at the southeast corner of the Loma Linda Civic Complex, 25541 Barton Road. Brown, a third-generation artist, began his career in advertising but left that field to pursue fine art full time, after a successful one-man show demonstrated his sure grasp of the California “aesthetic.” From his website: “(Brown) works in the California Impressionist style. His paintings are known for their bold, confident brushwork that vibrates with energy and strength as they capture the magical light and beauty of the California landscape and other subjects.” His work appears in numerous collections, both private and civic. His TV series demonstrated a unique method of working with oils en plein air. The intimate setting of LLCAA monthly meetings offers an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the guest artist during and after the demonstration, and to closely examine the work in progress. Betty Francis, Program Chair, states, “It’s a real coup to be able to present an artist of the stature of Tom Brown!” The public is invited; a $3 donation is requested. Admission is free to LLCAA members and to students.
