On Sunday Sept. 14 Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California (CCFSC) hosted its 15th Annual Kids Walk. This is a 1.5 mile walk from the CCFSC Office in Loma Linda to LLUCH. The community was invited to come out and show support of families who have lost a child to cancer or have a child with cancer to help bring community awareness to this disease. The walk, which doubled in size from last year, was attended by over 800 participants who carried posters and banners with pictures of their children, sang team chants and made noise to bring awareness to childhood cancer. The top 3 teams with the most donations collected were Team Kaiti Kat, Team Leeah Oregon and Team Ava the Brave who collectively raised $6,340. With the help of sponsors CCFSC raised $20,000 to be used for services to families who have a child with cancer. Sponsors included: The Bingo Club, Ava the Brave, Beaver Medical Group, the Family and Friends of Aaron Michael Sandoval, Family and Friends of Julieta Ruiz & Violeta Gonzalez, “Our Little Angel” Andrew Barboza, Family and Friends of Rodolfo Escobar, Aubrey’s Warriors, Republic Services – Maya Medina Team Hope, the LLU Cancer Center, and a number of community members. Mike Morell, California State Senator – 23rd District, presented CCFSC with a certificate of recognition commending “the exemplary service and fervent commitment to the families throughout Southern California.”
