An institution in Grand Terrace has passed its ownership over to a new person “Ms. Sandra Shaver”, as was confirmed at the October 24, 2017 Grand Terrace Council Meeting. That evening the council presented both Walt and Monique Stanckiewitz a special commendation for the ownership of La Pasta Italia for over the past 28 years in the city. Walt said, “I have had so much fun running La Pasta Italia for all of these years and being involved with the community of Grand Terrace. Both Monique and I are looking forward to retirement and spending more time with our grandchild.” Ms. Shaver took some time after Walt spoke to describe her roots in the community, and indicated how happy she was to be back and provide excellent service to the city residents and future customers. Each of the council members gave Walt and Monique a gracious send off to retirement by praising each one of their past services for the community. Council Member Bill Hussey said, “It was a blessing to have both of you involved in the community and continually helping others, especially the youth in both Grand Terrace and Colton.” He also thanked Walt for his past service on the City Council and being Mayor of the City during those dark times and being able to sustain the City finances through those times.
Mayor Pro Tem Sylvia Robles thanked both Walt and Monique for their community service and all of the charity they performed. She was happy for their success in finding a buyer for their business and now being able to spend more time with their grandchild. Council Member Doug Wilson also praised them both and wished them good luck in the future. Council Member Brian Reinarz continued the praising of the past owners of La Pasta Italia by stating the restaurant had the best sandwiches he has ever had. He said, “I wish you the best of luck in the future as well as the new owners.” Major Darcy McNaboe finished the commendation presentation by thanking Walt and Monique for investing time and effort in their business in Grand Terrace and then moving to Grand Terrace and making it their home. She also thanked Walt for his time on council, and said she would miss the seafood ravioli they prepared at La Pasta. Good Luck in Retirement and Best Wishes.
