After 45 Years Colton City Manager Retires

Colton City Manager Bill Smith has announced his retirement, effective November 2026. Bill will conclude a 45-year career in municipal government, having served with the cities of San Bernardino and Ontario, followed by the last 25 years with the City of Colton. Bill is the longest-tenured City Manager in Colton’s modern history, serving as the City’s Chief Executive Officer for more than 11 years. His steady leadership, institutional knowledge, and commitment to public service have helped guide Colton through both challenges and significant progress, leaving a lasting impact on the organization and the community. Bill wishes to thank the Colton City Council, Colton’s residents and businesses, and, most of all, Colton’s great employees for their support and collaboration over the past 25 years. In the coming months, Bill will work closely with the City Council on a succession plan to ensure the continued forward momentum of Colton.
