A 10-acre site in Grand Terrace, this 200-MW/800-MWh battery energy storage system supplies electricity to around 150,000 homes for up to four hours during peak electricity demand periods.

On a 10-acre site, in Grand Terrace, the Condor Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is helping redefine how energy is delivered when it’s needed most. With a capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh, the facility can power approximately 150,000 homes for up to four hours during peak demand—strengthening grid reliability and supporting the transition to cleaner energy. At the heart of the project are 220 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, supported by space for 660 CMA Augmented BESS units designed to sustain performance over a 35-year lifespan. But beyond its technical scale, what truly sets Condor apart is its unwavering commitment to safety. Over the course of 280,000 work hours, the project team achieved an extraordinary milestone: zero recordable or lost-time incidents. This success was driven by a deeply embedded safety culture. A craft empowerment program ensured that every worker had a voice, while a thorough site orientation process prepared everyone who stepped onto the project for safe, high-quality work. Safety wasn’t just encouraged—it was celebrated. A recognition program tied directly to safety performance rewarded crews for maintaining high standards, reinforcing accountability and pride across the site. Leadership played a critical role as well. All managers completed OSHA-30 training within six months of assignment, and safety leaders maintained advanced credentials, including Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Many went even further, holding Certified Health & Safety Technician designations or higher. Completed in June 2024, the Condor BESS project was delivered on time and within budget—demonstrating that innovation, performance, and an uncompromising focus on safety can go hand in hand.
